Bull Island, a 2-3 acre island, is located on beautiful Charleston Lake, just behind the Fisherman's Monument. It's about 2 miles by water from the main dock and public boat launch in Charleston Village, where you would park your vehicle(s). This cabin is the only cabin on the island, very private, but with boats going by. PLEASE WAVE - Canadians are very friendly! There are hiking trails, but not for bicycles. There is NO BRIDGE to this island (or ANY of our islands); you must get there by boat. There is a huge new dock and boat slip, great for swimming and sunning. There is a beautiful lake view from the cottage and outdoor chair & hammock area, regulation horseshoes, a family of beavers living in the bay, loons, and all kinds of fish, turtles, etc. Good deep water for your boats at the dock, most of the year. Shoreline is rocky, and has wading areas by the docks, but no actual beach. Children must be supervised. "Oudoorsey" and rustic, this log-cabin-like summer home has full electricity/bathroom, shower, etc. Please know that the islands are not free of bugs, and while we keep them as clean as possible (and expect you to do the same), you will probably encounter wood bugs (they are NOT the cockroaches that occur from filthy surroundings, and while they might startle you, they are TOTALLY harmless), mosquitos, bees, wasps, flies, spiders, moths, darning needles, dragon flies, and other insects that are indigenous to the area. There are bug bombs, fly swatters, and screens on the windows. Sorry, but other than that, we cannot beat Mother Nature! Bring your mosquito repellent until about late July-August. The cabin sleeps six (stairway to loft that overlooks living room; loft bedroom having one double bed, and a good-sized (normal mattresses) bunk bed with dresser, and door to outside; other more private bedroom has a double bed, dresser and a door for a little more privacy; bathroom with shower is upstairs, and there is a back door to the outside, located off the loft bedroom if someone doesn't want to climb the ladder. There are also two daybeds in the living room, if extra sleeping space is needed. The cottage is fully furnished, including blankets and pillows (you bring your own sheets/linens/towels), lovely indoor stone fireplace, 2 electric heaters, electric fans, outdoor brick barbeque (you bring briquettes) and Weber Grill, hammocks, regulation horseshoe game, aluminum canoe. Great swimming/water skiing, several nice swimming places on the island. Good hiking, wildlife, scenery, fishing. This cabin has kitchen radio, coffee pot, all cooking & serving utensils, electric stove/oven, refrig/freezer, spring-bottled-water cooler, microwave, etc. but NO TV (!) There is lots of reading material, from lake histories to mysteries, to romance novels. Please do not remove any reading material. The lake water from the taps is potable and can easily be used for cooking, however, we now have a bottled water cooler/dispenser at the cabin, for drinking. Additional bottles can be picked up at Kelsey's Marina. Initial bottle is free; additional ones are $5.95 + tax when you submit an empty return bottle (see contract). Please replace any other of the owner's items that you might use. Because many people already have their own boats, there is no motorized boat that goes with the cottage, but Kelsey's Marina does rent boats of different sizes. Please see our rate sheet. The aluminum canoe is there for guest use, free of charge. Housetrained pets are welcomed, but if the next renter finds ANY pet poop that they have to step over, there will be a $75 charge to your credit card, as well as non-booking status for future seasons. If there is something left from a previous renter that they or we didn't catch, then YOU must pick it up, in reverence to all pet owners. We are animal lovers ourselves, but not everyone is, so BE CAREFUL to help make the world welcome to pets, whether you think its your responsibility or not. We also recommend that pets be kept in a kennel or portable pen when you leave the island without them. Some breeds want to FOLLOW you in the water, and with power boats on the lake, this is not a good idea. Garbage is taken with you or left at the marina at a charge of $4 per bag upon your departure. Please remove all garbage, to help us avoid animal damage. Please leave the cottage at least broom-clean, dishes washed and put away, and generally tidy. NO FIRES on the island, except in stone fire pit. We appreciate your cooperation in helping us keep the place nice for the next renters. We hope you enjoy your stay!
